A Guide to Ivybridge
Surrounded by glorious countryside, Ivybridge is a vibrant town conveniently situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Boasting a rich heritage and a magnificent natural setting, in addition to being closely situated to the A38 and the diverse city of Plymouth, Ivybridge is a popular location for those looking to relocate to Devon for a more rural lifestyle.
Sitting on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park, Ivybridge offers easy access to enjoy the rugged landscape, whilst also boasting a range of amenities that allow you to enjoy the hustle and bustle of a typical English town. Within the town there are several fantastic eateries, a selection of independent boutiques and high street shops, a contemporary arts venue, plus excellent schools and community clubs.
In addition to its facilities, Ivybridge has a wealth of history attached, which can be witness throughout the town. The Ivy Bridge, a 13th century stone bridge that the town is named after, crosses the River Erme which flows through the town. It’s believed that the monks of Buckfastleigh erected this structure and it was an important point for travellers who were venturing to and from Dartmoor. Dating back to the 18th century, another notable landmark is Stowford Paper Mill, now a popular tourist attraction which documents the regions culture and heritage.

The River Erme, starts its life on the moors and offers opportunities of wild fishing and swimming, as well as being a haven for wildlife, making it a popular spot for nature enthusiasts. With it’s hundreds of miles of footpaths and trails, many a day can be spent traversing the diverse landscape, whether you enjoy riverside walks, woodland treks or exhilarating hikes up the tors to witness the landscape from its peaks.

Be sure to check their website for opening times as they do only open on selected periods throughout the year.
Located in a central square in the heart of Ivybridge is The Watermark, a modern multi-arts venue complete with a cinema, library and café. The space also plays host to a number of events; live performances such as comedy and music, Royal Opera and National Theatre screenings in the cinema, craft clubs and markets.
