Red Earth Developments are delighted to announce that Planning Permission has been granted for their eagerly awaited conversion of the former River Yealm Hotel in Newton Ferrers.

Overlooking one of the loveliest rivers along the South Hams coastline. This renowned and locally treasured building will be comprehensively refurbished and, together with an element of new build accommodation, will then provide 14 luxury apartments and 1 stunning contemporary house.   All with captivating and ever-changing estuary views.

There is already a waiting list of local interest from potential buyers within the village communities of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers.  Many home owners are looking ahead and planning to downsize to more manageable accommodation closer to the water.

The site includes a woodland which after years of neglect will be managed over a 20 year time-frame, including replanting with sweet chestnut, English oak and an understorey of hazel, holly and rowan.

Simon Friend, Director of Red Earth, commented: “We are so looking forward to being able to brief new life into this local old friend and invest in a restoration which will give this much loved building another 100 years of life.  Main contract works will start this autumn and the show apartment will be available to view from Summer 2018.”

The existing late Victorian façade of the building will be retained meaning that the view from the water will still be recognisable when sailing in to the harbour, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Andrew Biggs from selling agents Marchard Petit added: “We are very excited about this project and bringing a respected building back to its former glory.”

“It is a very positive step forward for such a well-recognised property” concluded Claire Northmore, Branch Manager at Marchand Petit’s Newton Ferrers office, “these will be very special new homes in a magical location.”
