Adapting to changing times

A week before the UK was put into lockdown the Marchand Petit Auction Team were faced with strange circumstances. How to allow an advertised auction to go ahead in line with strict guidelines, which at the time of the event, called for only small social gatherings exercising strict social distancing rules.

Finding themselves committed, Marchand Petit took the decision to adapt the auction process following the unprecedented circumstances. Phone bidders were dialled into the auction and a small number of just three other bidders were spaced apart to allow for social distancing and strict hygiene guidelines were followed to allow the auction to go ahead.

Armed with Gavel and mobile phones Marchand Petit’s Stuart Cartwright, conducted a successful auction despite circumstances securing a hammer price £28,000 above the guide price.

Auctioneer Stuart Cartwright commented:

“We were delighted to be able to complete the auction for the vendor with the successful bid from a purchaser by phone such is the ingenuity of the modern world, the sale was completed within minutes.

As we move now into very uncertain times where we are no longer able to hold public auctions, we will be looking at ways to adapt as a business to allow us to continue to offer auctions in the future and will be looking into ways to do so safely".

The Marchand Petit team of estate agents are continuing to work from home remotely to help you buy or sell your property and although they may not be able to visit your property that doesn’t mean they can’t discuss your property needs and get everything set up and ready to go when we are out of lockdown. If you are interested in selling your home by auction in the future or would like to discuss your options during these uncertain times, please contact their auction team on 01548 855596.
