As your local South Hams estate agent, we're not just about houses; we're about the lifestyle this incredible area offers. So, whether you're a long-time resident or a visitor considering making the move, here's our guide to making the most of February half-term in the South Hams.

Embrace the great outdoors:

Coastal walks:

Wrap up warm and explore the breathtaking South West Coast Path. From the dramatic cliffs of Start Point to the sandy shores of Bigbury-on-Sea, there are walks for everyone, from avid amblers to hardcore hikers. For a dose of extra fun, why not try geocaching with your little ones? All you need for this modern-day treasure hunt is a smartphone and the Geocaching app; there are 12 different geocaches dotted around the South Devon National Landscape, so why not see if you can find them all?

Dartmoor adventures

The South Hams not only benefits from the beautiful coastline, but also easy access to Dartmoor National Park. For those living in Ivybridge, Modbury or Totnes, the moor’s wild landscape and rugged tors can be reached in less than thirty minutes. Dartmoor is home to a number of cosy pubs and charming cafes so if you get peckish, or need sheltering from the rain, why not stop for a spot of lunch or a warming hot chocolate.

Indoor and outdoor attractions:

Surround yourself with history:

Explore the rich history and architecture of the region in one of our many National Trust homes or English Heritage attractions. The South Hams is dotted with iconic buildings and castles; Greenway Estate was once the home to iconic crime writer Agatha Christie and Totnes Castle is one of the best-preserved examples of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Many will offer family-friendly exhibitions and activities during half-term, perfect for keeping the kids busy and entertained.

Animal attractions:

South Devon also full of fantastic animal attractions to suit all ages. For young animal lovers, Pennywell Farm sits just outside Buckfastleigh and is home to over 150 animals. The attraction offers various hands-on activities to get stuck into; from goat milking to deer feeding and definitely don’t miss out on the miniature pig cuddles! Dartmoor Zoo, in comparison, is a 33-acre zoo, close to Plymouth, and contains all the usual suspects; tigers, lions, monkeys and zebras. The zoological park is also a charity and so it provides educational experiences alongside family fun.

Exhilarating theme park fun:

Situated a stone’s throw from Dartmouth, Woodlands Family Theme Park is the largest of its kind in Devon. Home to adrenaline-filled rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, and even its own zoo farm, this attraction can provide a day of fun for the whole family!
